German Bundesliga: Three Games To Watch This Weekend
- Hits: 136
The Bundesliga will play out another matchday this weekend, with games starting on Friday and finishing on Sunday. Bayern Munich will try to extend their lead at the top of the standings, while the race for both European spots and avoiding relegation is heating up.
Without further ado, here are three spectacular games to watch this weekend in Germany’s top-flight.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen – Saturday, 15:30 GMT
Arguably the biggest game of the weekend, Leverkusen and Monchengladbach are both battling for a spot in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League. The hosts sit in third place with 52 points, while the visitors are in fifth place with 50 points. Both sides are also coming off two-game winning streaks, so both enter in good runs of form as well. Undoubtedly, both sides could deliver an exciting matchup at Borussia-Park.
Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund – Saturday, 15:30 GMT
Borussia Dortmund have been one of the hottest teams in the Bundesliga during the current season and have won each of their last five contests – in fact, they are coming off a huge 4-0 win at home against Schalke 04 last week. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, are undefeated in their last five contests (W3, D2) and currently sit in sixth place with 39 points. Both teams need the three points here. While Dortmund would move closer to Bayern at the top of the standings, Wolfsburg could leave the Top 6 with a defeat.
Mainz vs RB Leipzig – Sunday, 15:30 GMT
Mainz sit in 15th place of the standings with 27 points and, even though they remain clear of a relegation threat for at least one more week, they have won just one of their last five contests. They are in a good run, though. The relegation-threatened side has avoided defeat in four of their last five games (W1, D3, L1). Leipzig, on the other hand, are coming off three straight draws and have fallen to fourth place with 51 points. They need to win here to remain alive in the title race.
