Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski does not see himself in the same "league" in which, according to him, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo . At the same time, he managed to beat both superstars in the vote for the Player of the Year 2020 according to FIFA.
"Messi and Ronaldo have been at the forefront of these polls for a long time. They are unique. I don't see myself on the same level as they are. They are a different league," Bayern Munich striker told France Football magazine. "Well, if you look at this year's numbers, I'm convinced that I'm pretty good at it in terms of performances and goals scored," he added.
Thirty-two-year-old Lewandowski scored 55 goals in all competitions in the previous season and helped Bayern win treble - a triumph in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League. Lewandowski has already been named the best player in Germany, and has also received an award from the European Football Union (UEFA). The French magazine France Football does not award the Golden Ball this year.
Argentine Messi and Portuguese Ronaldo shared their triumphs in the FIFA Player of the Year poll in 11 of the previous twelve years. From 2008 until this year's edition, they did not win the award only once - two years ago it was "blown" by the Croatian midfielder Luka Modrič.
