Former longtime president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Sepp Blatter is in hospital. His health is serious, but he is not in danger of death. His daughter Corinne Blatter Andenmatten told the Swiss daily Blick without further details.

"My father is in the hospital. His health is improving every day. But he needs time and rest," said Blatter Andenmatten. Eighty-four-year-old Blatter led world football for 17 years until 2015, when a major corruption scandal broke out in FIFA's leadership.

Subsequently, he received an eight-year ban on football for the non-transparent payment of two million Swiss francs in 2011 for the then head of the European Football Union (UEFA) Michele Platini. His sentence was later shortened by two years. The Swiss official, who was replaced by Gianni Infantino, was also investigated several times for embezzlement. The information was provided by AFP and DPA.
