Troy Deeney, a Watfort striker, says there is probably at least one gay man in each club.

In an interview with the BBC Podcast, Grounded with Louis Theroux, the 31-year-old footballer said: "I can say on the record that there is at least one gay or bisexual person on every football team. They are there, they are 100% there. "

"I think people who are gay or from this community are definitely very afraid that they will have to take responsibility for it.

Deeney believes that if a world-class footballer declared him gay, that wouldn't be a problem.

"I wonder for people to finish football, rugby, any sport and only then come up with a statement about their orientation. It seems that carrying this burden is not an easy thing during a sports career. "

Former Norwich and Nottingham striker Justin Fashanu, who revealed his orientation in 1990, remains the only footballer in British history to openly state that he is gay.
