(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)

The simple advice passed by Edinson Cavani onto Mason Greenwood ahead of Manchester United’s 2nd of the evening versus Tottenham has taken centre stage in the post-match chatter this evening.

Reds turn it around

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were of course back in action a short time ago, in a Premier League meeting with Spurs.

The clash marked a key one in the race for European football, particularly for the visitors, who saw their top-4 hopes dealt another blow at Newcastle last weekend.

When all was said and done in north London on Sunday, though, the woes of Jose Mourinho’s men only deepened, en route to an eventual 3-1 defeat.

Spurs actually took the lead in the clash shortly before the interval, when Heung-min Son slotted home Lucas Moura’s low delivery across the face of goal:

Manchester United, though, were not to be denied.

A stellar 2nd-half display saw the visitors simply prove too much for their shell-shocked hosts, as all of Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood went on to find the net:

🔴🇧🇷 Man Utd get their equaliser and it’s Fred, this one stands!

Cavani’s advice makes the difference

Whilst it was Fred who managed to pull the visitors on terms, before Greenwood added some gloss to the scoreline late on, in truth, it was Cavani’s go-ahead effort ten minutes from time which proved the game’s turning point in north London.

This came after a sleek piece of football down the right eventually resulted in substitute Greenwood bending an inch-perfect ball onto the head of United’s veteran hitman, to nod beyond Hugo Lloris:

Man Utd have turned it around away from home once again! 🔴

As has since been revealed online, though, had Cavani not passed a simple piece of advice onto his young teammate, it is possible that the goal would not have come to fruition in the first place.

As confirmed by those in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening, just minutes before United took the lead, Cavani urged Greenwood to set him free in the box more quickly.

In turn, the next time the ball fell to his feet, the Reds starlet unleashed a first-time cross, with the rest, as they say, history…

Two minutes before the goal, Edinson Cavani told Mason Greenwood to play the ball to him quicker in the box. On his next ball, Greenwood’s one-touch cross to Cavani is perfect.
