"The English Premier League has the largest share of broadcast revenues - up to 58.9%. If there were no more matches in England this season, the loss of broadcasting revenues would exceed one billion euros, "said the auditing company KPMG.
Experts looked at an estimate of the expected maximum losses of clubs in the Spanish, German, Italian, French and English top football leagues in the event that it is not possible to complete the scheduled matches for a pandemic. With a total loss of € 3.45 to € 4 billion, clubs would have to deal with financial problems that were not anticipated. The largest part would be the loss of revenue from television rights in the amount of 2 to 2.45 billion euros.
UEFA has begun to take steps to ensure that individual league competitions take place. A video conference of the secretaries general took place on Tuesday, attended by 55 member associations. New proposals have been presented on how to minimize losses as effectively as possible, on which associations should comment by the end of this month.
