Atletico Madrid said on Sunday that striker Joao Felix sprained his knee during training.
The club added in a statement that tests showed that the Portuguese striker did not suffer too serious an injury and that his return to training will depend on his response to treatment. The management has not confirmed how long the young Felix will be out of the matches, but he will probably miss a few matches after the renewal of the Spanish league. La Liga wants to restart its season on the second weekend of June.
Spanish clubs started group training as soon as they got the green light from the government. The league has been suspended since mid-March and there are 11 laps left to finish the season. Atletico is in sixth place in the table with a loss of 13 points from the leader of Barcelona.
Felix joined Atletic in 2019 as an expected transfer from Benfici, following the departure of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona.
