The election of the president of the Spanish football club FC Barcelona was postponed due to a coronavirus pandemic. They were originally scheduled for January 24, but saw an increase in new cases in the region and the authorities refused to grant them an exemption that would allow club members to take part in the vote. The AFP agency informed about it.
Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Freixa, who received the required number of signatures from the club members, are fighting for the post of head of the "blaugranas". Emili Rousaud originally wanted to run, but he decided to resign on Thursday.
Former President Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned in October, facing a vote of no confidence. Carles Tusquets took over his duties temporarily. The new president faces the difficult task of convincing the biggest star of the team, Lionel Messi , to extend the contract, which will expire in the summer. Stabilization of club finances will also be a priority, the DPA agency reminded.
