German footballer Mesut Özil could leave Arsenal London in the near future and join the MLS DC United team.
The football.london portal reported that negotiations had already taken place between the two sides, and the American team had prepared a lucrative offer for the 2014 world champion, including the opening of a branch of its network of 39 Steps Coffee cafes at its stadium. According to the portal, Özil's agent Erkut Sogut is well acquainted with one of the directors of DC United, Sam Porter. He played a significant role in Wayne Rooney's arrival at the club in 2018.
Thirty-two-year-old Özil has not played a competitive match since March last year and has not even coached with the team in recent weeks. Helmsman Mikel Arteta did not register him in the staff for the first half of the Premier League or in the matches of the European League. "We have a wide range of staff, we know that. There are a lot of players who will go on guest appearances, who will leave the team. That's a priority right now," Arteta said of the club's goals during the January transfer period.
Arsenal has been trying to transfer Özil for several seasons, but the former German national team has always insisted on keeping its lucrative contract with the club. He came to the Emirates Stadium in 2013 for 50 million euros from Real Madrid and won the FA Cup three times with the team.
