La Liga President Javier Tebas hopes Spain's top league will start again on June 12. At the same time, they claim that coronavirus tests pose a "practical zero" risk to players.
The league plans to resume training and play matches behind closed doors, which has begun the process of testing players. Testing yielded a positive result in five unnamed of the two highest competitions. Players were immediately moved into isolation. Their return to training will be possible only after two consecutive negative test results. The president said 25 to 30 positive testers are expected, so "the current figure is good news for the football industry."
"I would like the renewal date to be June 12. It depends on many factors, such as the potential increase in those infected and factors that are not dependent on football, but rather on Spanish society, "said Tebas.
The risk during the games will be zero, or practically zero, because players will be tested with only a 5% possible failure rate - 24 hours in advance. The second Spanish league should therefore start at the same time as the first.
Since 11 May, Spain has been one of the most affected countries in Europe, with 26,621 deaths and 264,663 infected.
