Messi’s Barcelona future

Lionel Messi’s future has of course been a major talking point in the world of football for some time now.

Following Barcelona’s hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season, Messi attempted to depart the Camp Nou via a clause in his contract.

However, after months of back and forth, the Argentine eventually opted to stay put for 2020/21.

But, despite being set to see out the remainder of the campaign with Barca, Messi’s future beyond the summer remains unclear.

Two of the teams most heavily linked with the veteran attacker over the last year or so have been Manchester City and PSG, with it having even been  last month that the latter had offered Messi a two-year deal.

Messi to stay at Barcelona?

A Camp Nou stay, however, was then touted more recently.

The Times suggested that the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner looked set to remain a Barcelona payer, following positive talks between the club and his father.

It was added that Messi was close to agreeing a 10-year deal with the Blaugrana.

Now, on Saturday, with just one game of the La Liga season left to play, a fresh update regarding Messi’s future has emerged.

And, as per beIN SPORTS, Lionel Messi has decided to continue with Barcelona.

There are, at present, no details given on how long Messi will remain at the Camp Nou for.

Elsewhere, Messi has been discussing the 2020/21 campaign.

And the Argentine believes that winning the Copa del Rey was a turning point for this young Barca side:

“The cup was special because of the time we are in, and we had a good year because of different results.”

“It’s a young team, with new people and this cup for the dressing room was a very important turning point.”
