A fresh insight into the future of Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos beyond the summer has, this weekend, been forthcoming online.

Gunners stint

Spanish international Ceballos is of course currently enjoying his 2nd consecutive campaign on loan in north London.

The 24-year-old initially made the move to the Emirates in the summer of 2019, and, on the back of a somewhat hit-and-miss opening to the season, went on to establish himself as a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

Ceballos formed a solid partnership alongside Granit Xhaka in the Gunners’ engine room, proving central to the club’s triumphs in both the FA Cup and Community Shield.

The 2020/21 campaign, however, has proven considerably less fruitful for the Real Madrid loanee.

Ceballos has managed starts in just 17 of Arsenal’s 37 Premier League fixtures to date, amid a combination of fitness problems, fresh competition for places and general struggles for form.

The Spaniard has also been consistently criticised for his costly mistakes in Europe, the latest of which saw Ceballos lucky not to cost the Gunners their shot at Europa League glory 90 minutes prior to their eventual exit from the competition, after being needlessly dismissed versus Villarreal.

Real return

As such, whilst it had once appeared almost nailed-on that the transfer chiefs in north London would eventually swoop to make Ceballos’ signature permanent, the situation, of late, has been thrown into doubt.

In fact, with Mikel Arteta and co. reportedly already looking elsewhere for reinforcements in the middle of the park, the Arsenal boss’ compatriot staying put has begun to look increasingly unlikely over recent months.

And, as outlined above, this weekend, a fresh insight into the situation has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed that Ceballos will indeed return to Madrid upon the expiration of his deal at the Emirates.

It is added that, as things stand, there is ‘no chance’ of an extended future with Arsenal coming to fruition.

The 24-year-old, though, also looks altogether unlikely to be reintegrated into the first-team setup in the Spanish capital ahead of next season.

This comes with Real having opened the door to a permanent exit for Ceballos, as Los Blancos ‘wait for new proposals’.
