Real Madrid’s battle with La Liga

Recent months have seen tensions flare between La Liga and one of its giants, Real Madrid.

The European Super League, of which Los Blancos remain part of, was by no means the beginning of the problems, but certainly represented a clear escalation in the disagreements. Real Madrid, perhaps rightly, feel as though they would survive without La Liga, whilst the reverse would not be so assured.

Although Real Madrid remain in La Liga for now, there is further trouble on the horizon, with the club last week announcing that they were against the CVC sale, which would see 10% of La Liga rights sold to a private equity fund for 50 years in exchange for a 2.6 billion euro cash injection.

They are not the only club taking a stance, with Barcelona also refusing the deal, even at of losing Lionel Messi . However, the Catalan club have, to date, not gone as far as taking legal action.

Perez responds to claims they want to leave

Outrageous headlines appeared this morning in Mundo Deportivo, claiming that Real Madrid had been sounding out the possibility of leaving La Liga, and had considered joining the Premier League, Serie A or the Bundesliga.

It was unclear how, logistically speaking, such a move would work given the national nature of each division.

However, the news was quickly denied by the Spanish club.

Real Madrid responded in usual brisque fashion, saying that:

“Given the information published today by the newspaper Mundo Deportivo, in which it says that our club studied going from LaLiga to the Premier, Real Madrid wants to make it clear that it is completely false, as well as absurd and impossible and that it only intends to disturb once more the day to day of our club.”

After a failed super league attempt laid Florentino Perez’s ambitions bare, could we see Real Madrid in a different league soon?
