PSG edge past Bayern

Two of Europe’s heavyweights battled it out on Tuesday evening for a space in the Champions League semi-finals.

The meeting between PSG and Bayern Munich was of course a repeat of the 2020 final, which Bayern came out on top in.

However, it would be the Parisians who emerged victorious this time around.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side headed into this weeks’ action boosting a 3-2 lead from the first leg after another starring display from Kylian Mbappe.

So, though Bayern won 1-0 on Tuesday, PSG still advanced due to their away goals.

They will now face one of Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.

Neymar staying put?

Following the tie, Neymar has all but confirmed he will be staying at PSG.

The Brazilian’s current deal only runs until 2022, meaning that PSG would likely have to sell him this summer in order to recoup some of the fee they paid for him.

There was talk he had agreed a new deal till 2026 in February, but PSG refuted said claims.

Now, though, when speaking post-Bayern, PSG’s sporting director stated that he believes Neymar will stay at PSG for a long time:

“Neymar contract? I think Neymar will stay here at PSG for a long time”

Neymar himself was then drawn on the issue, stating it is no longer a topic and he feels very comfortable and at home in Paris:

“The contract extension with PSG is no longer a topic! Obviously, I feel very comfortable and like at home here. I feel happier than before”

The former Barcelona man would also discuss his celebration in front of Joshua Kimmich after the full-time whistle on Tuesday.

And though Neymar claimed he did not celebrate to mess with the German, he argues it was fate that Kimmich was so close to him as the midfielder had previously said that Bayern were better and would progress to the semis:
