The social media activity of Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has turned heads this evening, after the Frenchman jumped to the defence of Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane.

Willock strikes late

Saint-Maximin and co. were of course back in action earlier today.

The Magpies made the trip to Anfield, for a Premier League meeting with champions Liverpool.

Newcastle headed into proceedings aiming to carry forth a fine recent spell of form, which had seen them climb a full 8 points clear of the relegation zone.

And, when all was said and done on Merseyside, this is precisely what Steve Bruce’s man managed.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance in terms of both possession and chances created, Newcastle struck with essentially the last kick of the game, to secure a hard-earned share of the spoils.

After the ball was nodded down into the heart of the Liverpool penalty area, super-sub Joe Willock lashed home a deflected effort, bagging his 3rd in three games, and cancelling out Mohamed Salah’s early opener:

AMN defends Mane

Whilst the Magpies were deservedly showered in praise for another gutsy showing on Saturday, a number of Liverpool’s stars, on the other hand, were singled out for criticism by fans and pundits alike.

The main culprits were Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, amid a difficult spell in front of goal for both Reds attackers.

And it was the former who’s name, as outlined above, found its place in the social media replies of none other than Allan Saint-Maximin this evening.

After the Newcastle wide-man, who looked superb throughout the 90 minutes at Anfield, posted a celebratory message on Twitter, one Liverpool fan responded by urging Saint-Maximin to swap Tyneside for Merseyside, as part of a deal which would send the struggling Mane in the other direction:

Can you come to Liverpool and Mane goes the other way. 👀

The Magpies’ star man, though, was quick to shut the Reds supporter down, via a brilliant message of support and respect for Mane:

I know you think it’s a nice message to me but I don’t like this. Be respectful to him please you are ungrateful, he did and he’s doing a lot for Liverpool, there still a long way before I could reach his level
