Gunners on Fire

On a night in which Arsenal simply had to win and with their season arguably on the line, they produced a stunning display in Prague and a first half that will live long in the memory of their fans.

The Gunners won 4-0 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate and had as good an evening as they could have hoped for.

Mikel Arteta’s team produced wave after wave of attack and were 3-0 up inside 24 minutes, and would have more if not for VAR. They simply tore their opponents to pieces.

Arsenal thought they had taken the lead after 14 minutes when Emile Smith-Rowe turned in the ball in after Kolar tipped Bukayo Saka’s curling effort onto the post. However, VAR ruled the goal out.

However mere moments later they did take the lead when Nicolas Pepe weaved his way into a shooting position, after controlling Smith Rowe’s pass, and scored his 5th goal of the tournament.

The quick feet from Smith Rowe.

The night got even better for Arsenal when just two minutes later, Saka was brought down in the box and Alexandre Lacazette converted the resulting penalty.

Lacazette seemed to have set the tone for the performance with his taking of the knee in front of Slavia Prague, who of course  had Ondredj Kudela banned for 10 games this week due to racially abusing Rangers’s Glen Kamara.

Three minutes later they scored again when Saka latched onto Callum Chambers ball, drove towards the box before cutting back and drilling a shot into the near post.

Arsenal blow Slavia Prague away 4-0 thanks to a stunning first half display

And so they will face Villarreal in the semi finals and a meeting with their former boss Unai Emery.

Should they put on a similar display as their first half tonight, they will likely find themselves in the final come the end of the season where they could face Manchester United.
