Pedri impressing with Barcelona
Pedri was signed by FC Barcelona in September of 2019, from Las Palmas.
The Blaugrana paid around £9m to bring the youngster to the Camp Nou, before loaning him back to his former club for the 2019/20 campaign.
Pedri, all told, notched just 37 appearances during his stint with Las Palmas. Yet, despite his limited experience at senior level, the 18-year-old has since cemented himself as a key figure in Ronald Koeman’s Barca side.
All told, Pedri has featured 44 times in all competitions this season, across which he has scored three and assisted six.
Such a fine start to life in Catalonia, meanwhile, has seen the midfielder earn early comparisons with some top players, including Andres Iniesta. In response to such comparisons, Pedri recently explained:
“I have to be Pedri. It’s an honour to be compared to Andres Iniesta.”
“From the first day they’ve treated me very well. Knowing Jordi [Alba], Busi [Sergio Busquets] and the U21 teammates makes everything easier. I like Luis Enrique’s style of play a lot.
“I hope to learn and adapt well to contribute as much as possible to the national team.”
Liverpool interested in Pedri
Pedri’s stellar form, despite his tender years, also appears to have attracted interest from a top Premier League side.
According to the Mirror, Barcelona have moved to stave off Liverpool’s interest in the starlet by offering him a new deal.
It is added that the Reds have registered their interest with Pedri’s representatives. However, the Blaugrana are said to have made it clear that they intend to extend his contract, which still has another year to run, plus the option of an extra two years.
The deal is also believed to contain a fairly hefty release clause of around £70m.
