(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)

Manchester United survived a scare this evening, to eventually get the better of Burnley at Old Trafford.

Greenwood at the double

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.

The Red Devils welcomed Burnley to Manchester, for Sunday’s final Premier League fixture.

United of course headed into proceedings as overwhelming favourites to bag all 3 points, having made it four wins on the trot in booking their spot in the semi-finals of the Europa League at the expense of Granada during the week.

Burnley, on the other hand, remain hovering precariously above the relegation zone.

As such, the tightly contested nature of this evening’s action at the Theatre of Dreams proved something of a surprise.

The hosts eventually took the lead early in the 2nd-half, when Mason Greenwood put the finishing touches on a wonderful move involving Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

Burnley, though, quickly levelled things up, when James Tarkowski got the better of Harry Maguire to drive a header beyond Dean Henderson.

From here, United toiled over lengthy stretches, as a stout Clarets backline stood tall in the face of adversity.

But such will was eventually broken a little over five minutes from time, when that man Greenwood stepped up once again, to lash home a deflected strike from the right:

Edinson Cavani, meanwhile, went on to add some gloss to the scoreline with a late 3rd for the hosts.

In turn, on the back of the action coming to a close on Sunday evening, it has since come as little surprise to see the name of match-winner Greenwood take centre stage online.

The young hitman has of course returned to form in a major way of late, with his latest brace having since given rise to a pair of noteworthy statistics.

First, it was revealed that Greenwood has now levelled Wayne Rooney as the top-scoring teenager in Manchester United’s Premier League history:

15 – Mason Greenwood is now the joint-top scoring teenager in Premier League history for Manchester United (15, level with Wayne Rooney). Class.

Not only that, but the English international has also surpassed Jadon Sancho as the most prolific teen in Europe’s top-5 leagues since the beginning of last season.

(The following statistic was revealed prior to Greenwood’s 2nd of the evening vs Burnley).

14 – Since the start of last season, no player has scored more top-flight goals as a teenager within the top five European leagues than Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood (14, level with Jadon Sancho). Ascent.
