Chelsea star Mason Mount has provided an insight into his budding partnership with Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz, on the back of the club’s downing of Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Blues cruise

Thomas Tuchel and co. were of course back in Premier League action on Saturday.

The Blues made the trip to Selhurst Park, aiming to bounce back from a harrowing defeat at the hands of West Brom the weekend prior.

And, when all was said and done in the capital, this is precisely what Chelsea managed.

A blitzing first-half performance saw the Pensioners essentially out of sight by the interval, on the back of strikes from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic, followed by a bullet Kurt Zouma header:

🔥🔥 Class of Kai! 🔥🔥

Here’s how Kai Havertz opened the scoring for Chelsea, cool as you like… 🥶

Crystal Palace, to their credit, managed to pull one back just past the hour-mark through Christian Benteke, but namesake Pulisic killed off any remaining hope of an Eagles comeback with a Chelsea 4th late on.

Tuchel’s side, in turn, moved temporarily back into the Premier League’s top-4, keeping the club’s European hopes for next season very much alive.

‘It was always brewing…’

And, as outlined above, ahead of their return to European action versus Porto later today, one of Chelsea’s star men has spoken out over a potentially potent budding partnership in west London.

Amongst the standout performers in the Blues’ win at Selhurst were the aforementioned Havertz, Pulisic and Mason Mount.

Havertz dazzled in a false 9 role, proving a thorn in the side of the hosts’ backline throughout, whilst also chipping in with a goal and assist.

Pulisic, as previously alluded to, notched a brace, showcasing the kind of form which Chelsea’s fans have so long been crying out for.

🇺🇸🔵 “Not too dissimilar from what he done here last season, Christian Pulisic has rifled home a second!”

And Mount bagged Man of the Match honours, on the back of a typically all-action display from his attacking midfield berth.

In turn, speaking during an interview with Chelsea’s official website this week, the latter of the trio was drawn on his on-pitch relationship with Havertz and Pulisic, with Mount having assured that the kind of display showcased on Saturday ‘was always coming’:

‘I don’t think it has come together like that since our first game together.’

‘It was always coming; it was always brewing. We started off very sharp. At the top of the pitch our combinations were good, we were creating chances and we took them. That’s something we probably haven’t been doing as much recently.’

‘We know we have a lot of quality in the team. When we’re on it and we’re creating chances we can score a lot of goals. It hadn’t happened like that but it has now and that’s great for us.’

‘We came into the game with a lot of confidence after Porto knowing what we can do. As a team we felt very strong. We know what is on the line. We’re still in three competitions so every game is so important.’
