Ahead of facing Germany, we have revealed England’s top 10 penalty takers from their current squad.
England vs Germany
England are set to face off with old foe Germany in the round of 16 next Tuesday.
Should the Three Lions see off Joachim Low’s side, they will be handed a fairly favourable run to the final.
All of France, Portugal, Italy, Belgium and Spain are on the other side of the draw to England this summer.
However, they, of course, still have the mammoth task of seeing off Germany before even thinking about the next round.
Die Mannschaft have not been at their best in recent years, but they were still able to put four past Portugal and are likely to be England’s toughest test by some distance at Euro 2020 so far.
Who are England’s best penalty takers?
England also have a pretty dire record against the big sides in the knockout phases of tournaments.
At the Euros and World Cup, for example, the last big side England beat in the knockout rounds was Spain all the way back in 1996 – and even that side was not Spain at their best.
Another issue England face is that they are historically terrible when it comes to penalty shootouts, a key part of knockout football.
Yes, they did finally win a shootout at the World Cup vs Colombia in 2018. But that still has not changed how bad they have been at them in the past.
England have lost twice to Germany at shootouts in the past. Once at the 1990 World Cup when they were still West Germany. And then at Euro 96 in the semi-finals.
Now, as mentioned above, 101 have taken a look at who England’s best penalty takers are at present.
And in all honesty, there are not too many options to choose from. Only Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford take them with any sort of regularity. See the full list below:
