A remarkable statistic surrounding the record boasted by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in tournament finales has resurfaced this evening.

Laporte decides it

Guardiola and co. were of course back in action a short time ago.

The Sky Blues made the trip to Wembley, for a League Cup final showdown with Tottenham.

City, for obvious reasons, headed into the clash as favourites, having enjoyed a scintillating campaign to date, with a treble still very much on the cards.

The Manchester giants are also regarded as tournament specialists, having remarkably clinched glory in four of the last five editions of the League Cup.

And, when all was said and done in the capital this evening, City made it five in six.

An utterly dominant performance on the part of Guardiola’s men eventually saw them emerge on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline, to clinch the first major piece of silverware of the English calendar.

Aymeric Laporte proved the hero, rising highest to nod home Kevin De Bruyne’s wicked corner 10 minutes from time:

Mou’s achievement

As outlined above, meanwhile, on the back of his latest piece of silverware secured, a remarkable statistic has surfaced surrounding Pep Guardiola’s record in major finals.

As a manager, the Spaniard boasts a head-turning record of 14 wins from 15 outings, a 93% win rate:

Perhaps even more noteworthy, though, is the fact that the only tactician to have gotten the better of Guardiola in a finale is Jose Mourinho – the man sacked by Tottenham less than a week before the Lilywhites’ showdown with Pep’s City:
