(Reading time: 1 - 2 minutes)

Harvey Elliott took to social media on Wednesday morning to disagree with the decision to ban Leeds defender Pascal Struijk for three matches.

Pascal Struijk ban has been upheld

Leeds defender Pascal Struijk would injure Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott on Sunday.

The tackle itself did not look malicious and play would continue until Mohamed Salah noticed Elliott was in serious pain.

He was then stretchered off and has since had surgery on his left ankle. Liverpool confirmed on Tuesday evening that Elliott has undergone successful ankle surgery.

It was added that Elliott will begin a rehabilitation programme with the Reds’ medical team and though he is expected to return to action later this season, Liverpool have not put a timescale on his comeback.

In the aftermath of the challenge, Struijk was shown a straight red card, which seemed like a slightly odd decision at the time given, as mentioned above, the ref did not even stop the game until it was clear Elliott was seriously hurt.

Leeds have since appealed the ban, but news broke on Wednesday morning that it was to be upheld:

Breaking – the Football Association has rejected Pascal Struijk’s appeal. Red card and three-match ban stands.

Harvey Elliott backs Struijk

Now, as mentioned above, Elliott has himself spoken out about the decision to uphold Struijk’s three-match ban.

Sky Sports posted about the ban on Instagram, which led Harvey Elliott to comment the following on said post:

Sorry about this Pascal I think it’s wrong! But it’ll soon blow over brother and you’ll be back in no time smashing it again keep positive.
