Manchester City back on track
Following their opening day defeat to Tottenham, Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side have got themselves firmly back on track, picking up 9 points from their next three games without conceding a goal, and scoring 11 in the process.
The Premier League is, of course, not their only focus either. They kick off their Champions League group on Wednesday evening with a tie against RB Leipzig, which they will be looking to go one better than the final heartbreak they suffered last season at the hands of Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea.
However, one of the cogs in Guardiola’s all-conquering machine is seemingly running out of time at the top, in veteran midfielder Fernandinho. It was thought that the 36 year old Brazilian would move on last summer, but he signed a new one-year extension in Manchester, meaning that he will finally call time on his Etihad career in the summer of 2022.
And while City have already added Rodri to their side as a potential replacement, they will be looking for an addition to ensure that they can rotate their squad effectively.
The Yorkshire Pirlo a new target
According to the Daily Mail, citing Spanish outlet Fichajes, Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is the newest addition to their transfer targets for the summer, with the Englishman having impressed at both club and international level last campaign.
Kalvin Phillips starts again for England, recalled after being rested vs Andorra. This his 17th cap in an historic 12 months – today marks exactly a year since his Three Lions debut.
Whichever way you look at it, he’s part of the furniture now. https://t.co/jUSLczamBT

Phillips, nicknamed “the Yorkshire Pirlo”, would appear a perfect fit for the role that Guardiola demands, although claims that he could be “potentially available for just 26 million pounds” appear far of the mark.
The midfielder is under contract with Leeds until 2024, and is valued at 36 million pounds by transfermarkt. As one of Marcelo Bielsa’s key assets, it seems unlikely that he will be let go for less than that valuation, if not significantly more.
However, should Manchester City come knocking, things could change.
Would he be a good fit for Manchester City?
