Balogun signs until 2025

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has decided to renew with the club and stay until at least 2025.

101 produced an in-depth recently on the striker if you’d like to learn more about him.

Mikel Arteta is credited by Balogun with being the key factor in convincing him to stay with the club.

“We have been extremely impressed with Flo this season. He has continually shown his natural ability in many training sessions with us and we have been equally impressed with his early integration into the first-team squad on matchdays,” said Arteta.

“He has given us glimpses with the performances and of course with his two goals already for the first team. The hard work starts here for Flo and we are all looking forward to supporting and working with him in the years to come.”

Technical director Edu spoke of his happiness that the contract could be agreed and is expecting much from the teenager.

“It’s great that Flo will continue to be with us. He is a very promising young talent and has already shown so much quality in his performances. We are all looking forward to working with him during his continued development in the coming years,” said the Brazilian.

Balogun will hope to get some minutes in the first team setup before the end of the season considering the Premier League’s diminishing importance.

First team impact

Upon signing, one of the first things which Balogun alluded to was about playing more first team football.

This appeared to be the the crucial point and stumbling block of the initial talks with the striker.

There were concerns he may not sign for the club and instead leave at the end of the season when his contract expired.

Arsenal have historically let go of a number of players who have gone on to have great success. Serge Gnabry, Ismael Bennacer, Yunus Musah and Donyell Malen to name but a few.

Balogun though has ambition to make his impact in the Arsenal first team.

“My ambitions for next season are to make an impact in the first team. I see it as something that I’ve taken upon myself to be able to go over there and make an impact, not just be one of the numbers,” said the forward.

“I want to be somebody who eventually leads that group, so I would say I have quite driven ambitions. We’ll see if I can make them happen.”

Arsenal released a full video with thoughts from Per Mertersacker, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Balogun himself on the new contract which you can check out here:
