Raphinha impressing with Leeds

Raphinha joined Leeds United during the delayed summer transfer window last year.

The Yorkshire outfit are believed to have paid Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais around £16m to bring the Brazilian to Elland Road.

And the former Sporting man has since gone on to enjoy a fine start to life with Leeds.

In 26 Premier League outings thus far, the winger has been able to provide six goals and six assists.

Raphinha’s Leeds decision

Raphinha has also been impressing in the big games, with his latest display helping the Peacocks to a 2-1 win over soon-to-be Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Now, in a recent interview, Raphinha has opened up on his switch to Leeds.

As already mentioned, the 24-year-old swapped Stade Rennais for Leeds last summer.

And when discussing the transfer, Raphinha claims that he had just 20 minutes to decide if he wanted to make the move to Ellan Road or not:

“The board said, ‘We’ve accepted an offer from Leeds, so now it’s your call: do you want to leave or stay?’

“If I wanted to leave, there was a private flight waiting for me to go to England and undergo a medical before signing the contract.

“Well, if I said it was a simple decision I’d be lying. It was definitely a tough decision. And I had 20 minutes to give my answer! Pretty complicated, right?

“On the one hand, I’d just helped Rennes reach the Champions League for the first time in their history, and it would have been brilliant to take part in that unique campaign.

“On the other hand, I had the offer from a traditional, huge club like Leeds, who were also enjoying great momentum having returned to the Premier League.”
