Schalke relegated

Schalke would face off with Arminia on Tuesday evening in a Bundesliga clash.

The German outfit were well aware ahead of kick-off that a loss would see them relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time since 1988.

And when all was said and done at the Bielefelder Alm, that is exactly what happened after Fabian Klos scored the only goal of the game for the home outfit.

Schalke Ultras confront players

Said loss means Schalke have won just two of their 30 league outings so far this season.

They have also conceded a simply staggering 76 goals in those games, which is by far and away the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga this term.

So, understandably, Schalke fans are not taking their side’s relegation too well.

And as shown in the video below, a number of Schalke Ultras would confront and chase some players when the club arrived back at their ground on Tuesday evening:

“Uth, you son of a bitch!”

Schalke players were confronted and chased by some of their Ultras last night when they arrived back in Gelsenkirchen. Came after their first relegation since 1988 was confirmed last night.

Schalke have released the following statement regarding the incident:

There was a brief exchange between the players and some groups of fans after returning from Bielefeld in the early hours of Wednesday morning (21/04).

During the course of the encounter, some currently unidentified individuals overstepped boundaries that are non-negotiable for FC Schalke 04.

Despite the understandable frustration and anger with our relegation to the Bundesliga 2, the club can never accept the physical endangerment of our players and staff. That is exactly what occurred during last night’s confrontation. The club strongly condemns this behaviour and stands behind our staff.

An investigation into the incident is already underway. FC Schalke 04 will give no further comment on this matter until things are cleared up.
